iOS 15: Developer beta 5 and 6 and the guidebook!

iOS 15

In June this year, Apple introduced iOS 15 which will be released in the fall this year. Apple has seven beta versions of iOS 15 for developers and six beta versions for public beta testers.

Many refinements are introduced by developer beta five

  • New splash screens feature descriptions for apps like Photos.
  • Reminders, Home, and Maps, a warning that the iPhone is findable even when turned off.
  • TestFlight information in the App Store.
  • Sound Recognition icons in the Control Center.
  • In the Control Center Sound, Recognition, and Camera icons are given a new design.
  • A new Weather app icon.

Developer beta six introduced few changes

  • The removal of SharePlay.
  • The return of timed watch face automation in Shortcuts.
  • A redesigned Safari Bookmarks, Reading List, and History view in the bottom tab bar view,
  • The significant version to Safari’s interface provides two options for the location of the tab bar and rolls back previous changes.

iOS 15 guide –

Arranging Home Screen pages – 

  • To enter jiggle mode, touch and hold a space on the ‌Home Screen‌.
  • Click the row of dots representing the Home Screen Page.
  • In the Home, the Screen grid will touch and drag a page to rearrange it about other pages. In response to drug action, others will move to make way.
  • On the top right corner of the screen, click done when the new arrangement is ok. To exist in jiggle mode, click done.

Delete Home Screen pages –

  • To enter jiggle mode, touch and hold a space on the ‌Home Screen‌.
  • Click the row of dots representing the Home Screen Page.
  • In the Home, the Screen grid will appear, then click the tick under the page that has to be deleted.
  • On the top left corner of the page, click on the minus to delete it.
  • On the top right corner of the screen, click Done when finished. To exist in jiggle mode, click done.

According to Apple, when Home Screen page, the App is not deleted and remains in the App Library. From the app library, they can be reinstalled by dragging.

On the Home Screen hiding App Notifications Bages

  • From the top-right corner of the screen, by swiping down diagonally open Control Center.
  • Click the Focus button.
  • Click the ellipsis button next to a Focus mode. Then select Settings in the dropdown.
  • Click Options under Customization.
  • Click the switch next to Hide Notifications Badges to enable the option.
  • Open Control center again, click on Focus, allow the Focus mode for which notification badges are just hidden.

Background Sounds – 

One of the new features introduced by Apple is Background Sounds which the users to stay focussed, minimized distractions, stay calm with the help of the iPad and iPhone. This includes dark noise, balanced bright, natural sounds like stream, rain, ocean. All sounds can be played in the background. When the sound is played for the 1st time, users will have to download individual sound effects.

  • iPhone or iPad launch the Settings App.
  • Click Accessibility
  • Click Audio/Visual under Hearing.
  • Click Background Sounds.
  • To choose a sound effect, click sound.
  • Choose from various sounds available.

One a FaceTime call blur background –

One of the new features is the Portrait mode in calls. With this feature, the background can be blurred so that the Focus is on the user. Unless the users expand the view of themselves, not much of a difference is seen in appearance. But the other person in the call will know the background is blurred.

  • Launched the FaceTime App and start a video call.
  • From the top right corner of the phone, open the Control Center with a diagonal swipe down.
  • Click the Video Effects.
  • Click the Portrait Button to enable it.
  • To dismiss Control Center and return to the call, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

Android Users FaceTime –

Anyone can be invited to join FaceTime call even if they don’t have Apple Phone. All users need to do is create a link to a ‌FaceTime‌ conversation that can be shared anywhere. By using a web browser, FaceTime calls can be logged in. Once the connection is sent and the other person opens it, a web page will open to enter the name and join the conversation. Once the other person joins the call, they will have usual face time options.

  • Launched the FaceTime App.
  • Click Create Link
  • Give a name to the link by clicking Add Name at the top of the Actions menu that appears.
  • From the Actions menu, select an option to share the link.

Adjust date and time of Photos –

In the Photos now users can see a richer Info pane to view detailed information about a photo in the library. The date and time the photo is taken can be edited.

  • Launch the Photo App and click a photo to select it.
  • Below the image, click the info button.
  • Next to date time, click Adjust.
  • To choose a new date and time, use the calendar and the time dial and click Done.

Prevent Email from tracking by using Mail Privacy Protection –

This Mail Privacy Protection prevents advertisers and companies from tracking how users interact with their emails. It hides users IP addresses and loads all remote content privately in the background, routing it through multiple proxy services and randomly assigning an IP address. Instead of an actual IP address, the sender will see an IP address corresponding to the region in which the user is located. Giving approximate information about the user and cannot be used for building a profile of user behaviour.

This feature is not enabled by default. But when the Mail app is in iOS 15 for the first time, it will ask whether to help privacy protection, and it can be manually turned off and on. Even with Mail Protection enabled, email senders, can still monitor users behaviour with tracked links if users end up click on them.

  • Launch the Setting App.
  • Tap Privacy Protection under Messages.
  • Next to Protect Mail Activity, click the toggle to enable or disable it.

In Photos adding Apple Music songs to memories –

There is an update for Memories in the Photo App like richer integration with Apple Music, new visual effects, a more interactive interface, and a new design. Apple Music‌ subscribers can choose to add any ‌Apple Music‌ song to memory. When memory is selected in photos, based on Apple Music listening history new memory mixes can give song suggestions that may be suitable for the picture or video. For a more personalized experience, users can choose their song.

  • Launch the Photo App and then select the For You tab.
  • Select a Memory that has to be edited under the Memories section.
  • To bring up the controls overlay, click the playing memory and then in the lower-left corner, click the Memory Mix icon.
  • Swipe right or left, and Photo App suggest music tracks by using machine learning from Apple Music with different memory look that may fit.
  • Tap the screen and the music if the users come across a song they like, and a look will be applied to the memory. Alternatively, click the Musci Icon to select another track.
  • Users can browse ‌Apple Music‌’s Top Suggested songs or tab the Search Icon at the top to find a specific song in the music library.
  • Click done when a song is chosen to preview it in the memory and then tab the screen, and the music will be applied to the memory.
